[Unfortunately, Emil doesn't get much of a response either. Luke just faces the wall once more, staring and trying to get around that empty feeling in his head, and it's as if he doesn't even realize there's someone else in the room. And, indeed, maybe he doesn't. If they're not noisy enough coming in, anyway.]

[That... isn't exactly a good sign, and for a moment Emil wonders if he should leave. But Luke just looks so lonely and SAD that he'd feel even worse leaving his friend like that, so he decides to speak up.]

Luke...?

[The sound of his name gets him to lift his head up just slightly, before he lets it fall to the pillow again. Doing that kind of hurt. And... he recognizes that voice.

Emil. He was there when... that happened. Wasn't he? Trying to help...]

[Emil misinterprets this action, thinking that Luke was asleep when he came in and that he woke the other boy up.]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up... I can come back later if you want.

It's fine.

[He'd rather no one be here at all. But... he's not going to get that, is he? So might as well let these people stay.]

Are you sure? I really don't mind leaving at all...

Emil... it's fine.

[Whether he leaves or not, really. But... that's why Emil came here, right? It wouldn't be right to chase him out.]

[As long as Luke is okay with it. He doesn't want to be a nuisance.]

[It's a stupid question and he knows it, but he really isn't sure what else to say.]

[And suddenly Emil feels guilty for even bringing the subject up in the first place. If he'd known it would upset Luke this much... of COURSE it would upset Luke this much, what was he thinking?

Silently, he creeps over to the edge of the bed, then reaches out a hesitant hand to rest it on the other boy's shoulder.]

[Maybe when Asch came back. Maybe when that void in his mind and heart and soul is filled again. Maybe when his own crushing guilt and sorrow lessens.

But now isn't that time.

He doesn't move to the touch - barely feels it, honestly, since that's his hurt shoulder. But at least he isn't moving away from it, only squints his eyes slightly to try to hold back that stinging sensation. Dammit, he's done this enough...]

[Rather than say anything, Emil just keeps rubbing his shoulder; then, remembering something Richter would do for him when he was sick, he moves his hand up to Luke's hair, but hesitates for a moment before actually touching it. It always made him feel better, but would it be too forward to do it for Luke? They still don't know each other all THAT well...

But Luke just looks so SAD that at last Emil decides to go through with it, reaching out and just stroking the red hair gently, hoping it will make him feel at least a little better.]
