[He figures Teddy is still uncomfortable enough about him that the little extra layer of etiquette might help a bit.]

Tea or coffee?

I'm definitely a coffee guy, but if you've got tea going, I can go for that too.

[He's definitely not picky in that front. Once that's said, Teddy's already made his way to the room Loki's in, hands in his pockets and keeping by the door, yet leaning to the side to watch him work.]

Coffee it is, then.

[He fills up the French press and gets that going, then collects a couple of coffee mugs and takes it all out to the dining room table.]

I've some biscuits too, if you like.

[Teenagers always like eating things, right?]

[Teddy eyes the coffee mugs for a moment, then moves to the table, hands resting on the back of one of the chairs.]

Sure, that's fine. [Teddy's appetite is about twice what the normal teenager eat, so any food he can get, he's totally cool with.] Oh, hey, have you eaten yet? [He did tell Billy he was having lunch with someone, after all.]

[Loki heads back to the kitchen and digs out the biscuit tin. After a moment of thought, he pokes around in the cold box and pulls out a plate of sandwiches that Rogue had made for him and he hadn't gotten around to eating. He brings those as well.]

I'm sure I have some time recently. I'll pick at a sandwich though if you'll eat the rest.

[Teddy's shoulders relax slightly, even though there's still some tension in them. He hasn't been able to relax for weeks now, really. But this... This is some good news. That he won't be alone in watching Billy... That someone else knows just how low in self-worth Billy is, enough that he wishes someone would kill him. And that someone will be with him when he can't.]

Thanks... really, thanks. I can't spend every moment of my life there... [He kind of wants to. But he knows that he'd go insane if he did that.] I need to... figure things out, too.

Yes, you do, and both of you might need some time away from each other to sort yourselves. [She's seen it from Teddy and Billy in equal measure: they can't think straight while the other is in a position to, maybe, judge them.]

[... Ooooh, is Loki offering him a plate of sandwiches here? Teddy really can't hide the way he lights up a little, head lifting in interest.]

Oh, wow, yeah. You sure you don't want any leftovers? [Because he probably won't leave any.]

[Loki laughs.]

My lady will make more, I think.

Perhaps she'll think I ate them all myself, even.

[Teddy laughs too, a quiet sound, and finally moves to sit in the chair.]

I see how it is. I'm your personal vacuum cleaner.

[He giggles.]

She always worries I do not eat enough. But all that food has to go somewhere, yes?

[He takes one of the sandwiches and starts picking at it.]

She's got a point. But I'll help a guy out.

[Teddy takes one of the sandwiches and eats away, and - He can't imagine why Loki would just pick at it, these really aren't so bad at all.]

[Because he picks at all of the food.]

Much appreciated.

I'm needing all sorts of help from you, I suppose.

Mmm.

[Hold up, Loki, his mouth is full, and Teddy doesn't feel like shifting to make eating conveniently easier anymore. He holds up a finger, indicating that he has something to say, then lowers it once he swallows the mouthful of sandwich he took.]

Billy? [Why else would Loki need to talk to him in private?]

[Loki nods.]

As before, I have... concerns. Strong ones.

About him not using magic anymore, I'm guessing.

[Because, again, why else?]

Mmm. Ignoring power does not make it go away.

Yeah. I know.

[His gaze ends up on the table as he takes another bite of his sandwich, seeming far away and deep in thought. He hasn't been sure how to discuss his opinion with much of anyone, really, but especially Loki.]

[Loki plays with one of his bread crusts.]

Ultimately, one must use power, or be used by it.

This, I have learned with experience.

So did I.

But if you're not careful, you can be used by your own power even if you're using it properly. I learned that with experience, too. It's the first time that ever happened to Billy, and... you know what the fallout was like. It makes sense that he'd be scared of it right now.

That is precisely my concern, that if he does not continue to work on his control and use the power, it will use him.

[He examines the sandwich as if it is the most interesting thing in the world.]

Something a bit like that happened to me in my much younger days. [And he doubts Billy would be nearly so forgiving of himself.]

Fear is natural. But if it leads him to try to cut off part of himself...

Yeah... I know. I tried doing that once, when I was a lot younger. It's hard to cut off a part of you that's always with you.

[Teddy mirrors Loki's actions, staring at his half-eaten sandwich like it holds all the answers.]

But the more people push Billy to use his magic again, especially so soon after all of this happened, the more he won't want to do it. And the only way for his magic to work is if he wants it again. Everyone forcing a decision on him when he's so afraid of his power is only going to push him the other way. He has to want it himself, and that'll take a lot of time. He needs time to heal first.

[Loki nods.]

I expect this to be a long-term game.

For my part, I will simply...be as myself. I think Billy would find it suspicious if I refrained from magics around him. [He smiles slightly.] Or refrained completely from needling him. He knows me too well.

But I am... glad to know you and I are ultimately of the same mind.

[Teddy glances up from his sandwich to give a half smile.]

Just don't overdo it, okay? He got really overwhelmed with everyone telling him he should get back into it the day he said he was done. [He sets the food down for the moment, instead raising his hand a bit to gesture lightly as he speaks.] I do want him to get back into it again, but only on his own terms. That's why I told him I was okay with whatever he decided to do. I wasn't saying I was totally fine with him giving it up. But that I'll stand by him no matter what choices he makes, and I'll try to help him make the right ones. When he's okay enough to be making them.

But we both know he will never actually feel ready.

[He gives Teddy a crooked smile.]

One never does.
