Well, we should be able to once we figure out how she works. I can't think of any other reason why she'd come with controls, can you?

[Luke, that's... probably not going to do anything yet. But Ginji will just smile - there's no reason to discourage him when Luke's finally showing some interest in aviation.]

The rotor blades can move. [He pushes one with a finger and the top of the helicopter turns for a few seconds.] All she needs is power.

[Luke's always enjoyed the Albiore. Flying in it, anyway; he'd rather not hear about how it works or what everything is for. He just. Likes to fly and see everything passing below him. It feels a lot like freedom.

... Also it's the only place he can sleep peacefully. The hum of the engine always manages to lull him to sleep when he can excuse himself properly.]

Power, huh... [He hands the controls over to Ginji.] Maybe you can do it.

[[Luke, you're such a bro.]]

[Ginji accepts the controller from him with a nod.] I'll give it my best.

[And so he looks both components over more closely, not going so far as to take the whole thing apart, but he does go through a reasonably involved "preflight inspection". He tests to see how far the toggles go each way, how much give there is, and deduces about how much pressure it might take to manuever it. This takes maybe five or ten minutes (it's just a miniature aircraft after all), during which time Ginji manages to locate what can only be the power switch(!). The helicopter hums to life and quivers about two feet along the floor, not yet rising but definitely moving.]

[Ginji beams at the redhead.] Looks like we have power, Luke!

[Luke watched for about thirty seconds before he looked away, hands pillowed behind his head. Yeah, watching him do that was kind of boring... It just didn't seem like he was getting anywhere. After a few minutes, he's kind of tempted to tell Ginji to call him when he gets it working while he goes somewhere else, or to just talk more. It's what he and Guy did, back on Auldrant... Guy would tinker with fontech, and Luke would watch, yet not really pay attention as he and Guy talked about everything and nothing.

It's a fond memory, and Luke's gaze is far away when Ginji calls his attention. He blinks out of it and looks at the helicopter, and his expression turns from lost and bored to delighted.]

Hey, it's really flying! [Or hovering, anyway. But he's sure it can go higher.]

Well, no, not yet. But with any luck, we should be in a bit!

[He maneuvers the switches for a few more seconds and sure enough, the little helicopter that could begins to rise into the air in front of them. A little wobbly at first, but it gradually hovers higher and higher until it's hanging above their heads. This is a little different from controlling the Albiore, so Ginji isn't attempting turns or barrel rolls or anything just yet.]

[There's a big grin on his face as Luke watches the helicopter ascend to above their heads. He almost doesn't hear Ginji ask him a question, but once he does, he blinks, then breaks his gaze from the helicopter to look at him.]

Really? You don't mind?

Why not? You're the one who gave it to me.

[It's the right thing to do. Besides, he's not a pro at this yet, and it's just a toy - you're supposed to share those. The helicopter makes a sloppy turn, narrowly misses a tree branch, and descends for a bit of a bumpy landing. The skids rattle against the ground, but the craft does manage to land in an upright position. Sort of.]

It's actually a lot harder than you'd think. Just be sure to ease the controls.

[There's a light note on the last part, and Ginji offers the controller back to Luke. Let's see what you're made of.]

I-I'll be careful, don't worry so much!

[He can totally do it! D| Despite how... intimidating the controls look. Urk.

Luke tilts the controller left and right, but that doesn't do anything. He jiggles the toggles a little, and that least makes the propeller spin lightly. That must be how it works, so he pushes them both forward -

And the helicopter tips forward on its nose and topples to its side in the snow. Well... at least its snow, the craft is sturdy, and it's not even off the ground. But he still lifts his shoulders and gives a nervous half smile, half cringe.]

Sorry...

[Ginji nods, crossing his arms and standing back to watch, an amused smile playing on his face. Determination's the first step. All the rest is just learning the ropes.]

[...Which Luke clearly hasn't had time for just yet. Ginji turns his attention from the redhead to the helicopter as it well...falls over. That's definitely not going in the record books as a greased landing.]

[But instead of being angry, Ginji just laughs and waves at him encouragingly.] That wasn't bad for a warm-up. You should give it another try.

R-Right... [Might as well do what Ginji says. Luke moves forward to set the helicopter back onto its legs, then just plops down in the snow in front of it and begins to seriously learn the ropes. Just barely pushing the levers instead of using force with it, seeing which lever makes something move, how much pressure is needed. He might be impatient at times, but when he really wants to learn something, he learns it fast and with determination.

After about five minutes or so, Luke thinks he's got it down. He slowly moves the knobs, and the helicopter hums before it shakily lifts about a foot off the ground.]

Haha, lift off! [Oh my god he is such a child]

[Ginji would protest - (Luke, should you really be flopping down in the snow? You might catch cold and make yourself sick.) - but the redhead looks pretty focused, and so the words die in his throat. When someone gets that look, you can watch over them but you're not meant to interrupt. The pilot will watch, then, moving a little closer so he can get a good look at what this toy helicopter's going to do.]

[Ginji's not too bored, despite the silence. He's figuring a few things out by watching Luke at the controls - some about the replica, and some about the aircraft.]

Nice take-off, Luke! I knew you'd be able to do it with a little practice.

[The helicopter moves forward about a foot or so, then slowly comes to a halt, wobbling slightly in the air. Man, this really was a lot harder than it looked...]

I guess flying the Albiore is a lot harder, huh... [He slowly stands up, keeping his hands on the controls. Let's lift that copter up a bit now.]

[Ginji makes a palm-turning gesture with his hand.] Well, it's different. Instead of using only your hands, you have to use your whole body. Hands, arms, legs, feet... like the Albiore's an extension of yourself.

[He grins.] And of course, there are more controls.

... Sounds kind of annoying. [He says as he stares down at the controls. Yes, he knew there were more, he's watched Noelle fly plenty of times. But to actually feel this, and to know that there are more?

Urk - then he realizes that that might be interpreted rudely, so he catches himself by raising his shoulders a bit a cringing lightly.] I'm sorry, I meant... It just sounds like a lot more work.

Oh, it is.

[Ginji laughs privately, then adds:] Believe me, when I was first learning how to fly, I had to go through all the controls about a hundred times before anyone would even consider letting me try out the flight simulator. It was kind of dull, and I thought about sneaking a shot at it more than once.

But if you don't understand how all the systems work together or how to operate them in different conditions, eventually... [He slowly mimes a plane crashing.]
